This summer I was delighted to hear the premiere of my piece ‘When Voices Rise’ which I wrote for the Manchester Chorale’s 40th anniversary competition back in 2019. The premiere was delayed unfortunately on a number of occasions due to Covid restrictions, so the performance seemed like a comforting ‘reset’ on the events of the past few years. My thanks to Jill Henderson-Wild and other choir members who made me feel very welcome on the occasion! Click on the video above to hear the final result.

Digital Dust Performance in July!
Today the Three Choirs Festival has published their programme. I am delighted to say that my orchestral piece ‘Digital Dust’ has been programmed on 25/07/2021. I will keep everything crossed that the festival goes ahead as intended, and will very much look forward to hearing NOW, under the baton of David Hill, perform this piece!
BBC NOW/CoDI 1-to-1 piece released…
I am very proud to be able to share with you the piece I wrote for this lock-down call, for Becky Jones, principal viola player of the National Orchestra of Wales. The video explains everything and I hope you enjoy listening to it! I’ve never written a piece for any instrument plus electric toothbrush before….click here to listen
Cinderella online for 2 days!
Cinderella showing this Sunday!
I am delighted to be able to share the ballet I wrote a few years ago for ‘Ballet Cymru’. It will be available for two days from 2pm on Sunday 24th May. It was a great experience working with Ballet Cymru and for those of you who were unable to see the live performances, this will be a great opportunity to discover the work of this great company! FB Live sesh for LMM tomorrow @ 3PM!
Very much looking forward to interacting with students of London Music Masters tomorrow in a Facebook live session about notation. They commissioned the Three After-Dinner pieces for Peter Moore a couple of years ago (available up on the left in my music player if you want to listen). Here’s the link https://www.facebook.com/londonmusicmasters and I’ll be live at 3pm. You need pens, paper, a fruit or vegetable, and your imagination. Earlier sessions at 11am with Beth Higham-Edwards and 1pm with Tom Coult and Sarah Hill should be great to tune into as well. And it doesn’t stop there, as Preetha Narayanan is following me at 5pm. See you there!
Komos Choral Composition Winner!
I am very happy to be able to share that I have won first prize in the Komos Choral Competition! I entered my work ‘Nothing and Everything’ for TTBB choir in the 6th Komos International Choral Competition because it related to LGBTQI themes (and was written originally for the LGMC in a project called shame chorus curated by Jordan McKenzie). The score for this work will be published by the Publishing House AltrEdizioni and will be performed by Komos – Bologna’s Gay Men’s Choir in the future.
Music Theatre Wales project
This week has seen the start of a project I am working on with MTW and a group of young performers based in north Wales. We watched Denis + Katya on Monday evening in Theatre Clwyd. For some of the group it was their first time watching an opera, so it was great to be able to experience this very contemporary work by Philip Venables and Ted Huffman with them. The project runs until the end of the month, by which time I’ll hopefully be able to share what we’ve been working on with you.
LGMC arrangements tonight! SOLD OUT!
This evening the London Gay Men’s Chorus will be performing at the Cadogan Hall and I am very much looking forward to sharing the arrangements I have written for the choir. Sadly I am not able to be in attendance this evening but I wish the choir every success with the concert!
Yesterday I was delighted to be informed that I will be one of the composers chosen to work with Vanguard Manchester for their concert next year. The exact details will be fleshed out in a meeting in November. I would like to congratulate Ben Nobuto, James Banner, Jenny Jackson, Jasmine Simonds and Benjamin Marrington-Reeve who will also be participating. I look forward to meeting them and the Vanguard team in November.
